Menthol is an alcohol found in many essential oils, such as peppermint. However, as you may be aware, pure menthol can irritate skin. That's why we use a mild ingredient complex made from synthetic menthol and plant-based lactic acid (lactate). Lactic acid is also produced by our skin, where it works with other substances such as various amino acids and urea to moisturize. This cocktail of ingredients created naturally by the skin to lock in water are referred to as the natural moisturizing factor (NMF).
A shampoo containing menthol and lactate is therefore ideal for treating dry, irritated scalps, which may also be prone to dandruff: The lactate found within provides the perfect amount of moisture for the hair and scalp, and also stimulates the hair follicle stem cells to promote hair growth.
